Global Account Manager

What is it that you do?

I manage a Food Retailer account on behalf of a Global Certification and Accreditation provider. We provide auditing services, training and ad hoc technical expertise.

What does your day-to-day job involve?

Day to day I ensure the training services we are providing run smoothly. I put together proposals for new new business and I support the customer with the services we deliver.

How long have you been working in the industry?

I’ve been working in the Food Industry for almost 20 years now!

What qualifications do you have?

I have a BSc (Hons) Food Science and Nutrition

How did you get into this role?

I worked for my current employer in a variety of technical roles in the UK. An opportunity came up to move into account management in Australia and I was keen to take up the challenge.

What are you most proud of in your career?

So many things! I have loved the versatility of working in the food industry where I have done product development, technical roles and now commercial.

What do you like most about your job?

I love the variety that my job provides, I am also always learning and researching as the customer is always keen to explore new avenues of learning.

Anything you particularly dislike?

The administration! A necessary evil.

What qualities do you believe you need to succeed in this job?

I think one of the main qualities for this role is the technical background. It has worked well for the client that I have the knowledge to back up what I am doing. I also think its important to be able to communicate well and form positive working relationships.

What advice would you give someone wanting to get into your industry?

Be open to opportunities that come your way as you never know where they will lead. For me working in a wide variety of food factory environments has benefitted me no end.

Finally, what is the strangest thing you have ever had to do in your working life?

I carried out an audit with someone who was in labour! She was very keen to ensure the audit was completed before she started her maternity leave but it was one of the most surreal experiences of my life to date!
