UK Gender Pay Gap Reporting in Science

All UK companies with a staff compliment of more than 250 have had to report their pay details – specifically the gap between the median and mean hourly rates of male and female employees.

A little over 10,000 companies submission the information by the deadline of midnight on Wednesday 4th April.

When searching for careers, high calibre candidates are as fussy as ever, weighing up a myriad of options prior to applying for a role on offer – Benefits, location, company culture, facilities, pay, and a host of other factors all play a part in the appeal of a business. Now, these figures are to provide another consideration, particularly for women. Let’s face it, what woman wants to work for a business who values their female staff 20% less than their men… Or, in the case of Ryanair, 67% less!
