In the last few years, Europe has become the largest market for e-cigarettes in the world, led by UK, Germany and France. In a report produced by Public Health England it is estimated that currently about 1.3 million people in the UK use electronic cigarettes and around 400,000 people have completely replaced smoking with electronic cigarettes. Overall, in 2018 the e-cigarette market was worth USD 11.26 billion, and it is projected to reach a massive USD 18.16 billion by 2024.
Due to the increase in usage, companies such as UK British American Tobacco PLC are investing billions of dollars into research, development and marketing cigarette alternatives.
With such positive prospects budding all over the world, the amount of opportunities for professionals within the electronic nicotine industry is growing massively year-on-year.
As well as the increased investment in the market, in June 2019, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a guidance titled “Premarket Tobacco Product Applications (PMTA) for Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDS).” This guidance communicates to manufacturers of ENDS the FDA’s recommendations for the approval process of such products. Due to the extensive process required to seek approval for a set of products, the opportunities for Toxicologists and Analysts within the industry have increased massively.
