Statistics from Full Fact show that in 2017 only 11% of engineers in the UK were women. Unfortunately, this figure hasn’t increased much over the last couple of years. This is where Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day comes in.
Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day repeats every year on 21st February and is a day when schools and individuals are encouraged to engage and introduce girls to engineering and other STEM subjects.
Many organisations are doing their bit by taking part in Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day. One particular organisation, NASA, have organised for a host of female technical experts and scientists to speak to students about their careers and their experience as women in a STEM field. The Female technical experts include a Launch Director, a Systems Engineer, a Cryogenics Engineer and a Human Factors Engineer. To read more about this event visit the NASA website.
